The iPad is a Tablet

Before any premature conclusions are formed, understand that this is not an appraisal of the iPad. The title above is as literal as it gets; the iPad is a tablet. So why am I stating the obvious? Well, in some circles, it would seem the obvious is not so obvious. This is about many online retailers that choose to categorise the iPad differently from all other tablets. I have observed this trend for quite some time now and it is upsetting to see more stores emulate this folly.

Listing the iPad as a wholly different product category separate from other tablets is akin to saying that Volvos are a different type of product as compared to other cars. I have considered if this trend is nothing more than an innocent mistake on the assumption that the retailers are listing by platform but then the other tablets would not be classified as tablets but as Android and Windows RT/Pro. Microsoft has also adopted this practice by. In its Windows 8.1 Everywhere commercial, the voice says "...you can do it all; simpler and easier on your Windows tablet, PC or Surface". On an unrelated note, Microsoft is just going to further confuse people with such statements.

Amazon used to be part of this bunch but thankfully they've changed their ways. Here's hoping all the other retailers follow suit.
